COVID-19

Updated:  October 2, 2023

As we move into the fall with the expectation of increased illness from COVID, RSV and

Seasonal Influenza, Huron Hospice is taking reasonable precautions to help protect the

health of residents, visitors, staff and volunteers.  We are also hoping to avoid a spike where

more restrictive measures will have to be taken.  Find below the current protocols to help us

reach these goals.

  • All visitors will be screened for symptoms of illness. If any symptoms are reported, even if it is felt these are related to an allergy, the visitor will rapid tested for COVID.  If the test is negative, the visitor will still be required to wear a mask in all common areas to protect others.

  • For visitors who test positive for COVID, or who have been in recent contact with someone who is COVID positive, the visitor will:

1.     Be asked to continue to test daily until symptoms have passed.

2.     Be asked not to visit at the hospice residence unless their loved one is in the final hours of life (and use an N95 mask at all time and not use common areas).

3.     Be invited to visit from outside the windows.

  • While we appreciate family feeling at home in the residence, family are asked not to let visitors in the front door so that a staff or volunteer can complete a screen for symptoms of illness when they arrive.

  • Huron Hospice is a mask-friendly environment so all are welcome to wear masks even if not required.

These components of our policy have been developed in concert with our leadership team, clinical staff, and medical director (Dr. Meagan Nolan) and are informed by recommendations from Huron Perth Public Health, healthcare partners in this region and the Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario. If you have questions about our COVID policies, please contact our Resident Care Coordinator, Erin Donald, by e-mail at erin.donald@huronhospice.ca  or by telephone at (519) 525-7290.
