Huron Hospice Memorial Forest
Commemorate the life of a loved one by planting a tree.
As a tree grows over the years, it symbolizes strength, shelter, and durability. In a forest, trees become homes for wildlife. In a single year, a tree will capture up to 22 kg of carbon and release oxygen. They are also a place of calm and peace, a place where moments matter. People often plant trees as a living tribute and source of comfort in memory of those they have lost.
The Huron Hospice Memorial Forest is a living tribute dedicated to the memory of loved ones and friends who have died. The forest is located behind Bender House, along the Tranquillity Trail. Ten different indigenous tree species, both deciduous and evergreen, are planted to create a mixed forest suitable for Huron County. Every year, people donate to plant a tree in memory of someone special who has died.
You can arrange to plant a tree in memory of someone who was close to you. A tree costs $395, and payment is made in the form of a donation. Orders are due each year on August 31st. Trees are ordered online by clicking the link below, calling Christopher Walker at 519-525-7352 or emailing at chris.walker@huronhospice.ca. A tax receipt for your donation will be issued.
Trees are planted in the fall. The name of your loved one will be placed on the memorial sign at the forest's entrance. A dedication service will be held each year on the first Sunday after Thanksgiving at 2:00 p.m. at the forest's entrance. All are welcome to attend.
Anyone who wishes to remember a friend or loved one is welcome to participate.
