Hospice is a concept of care with a focus on caring, not curing, living not dying and helping to provide quality of life until the end. Hospice is all about HOPE. You do not have to struggle alone, Hospice can help.

For over twenty years Huron Hospice Volunteer Service has provided compassionate care, emotional support and practical assistance to individuals and families who are facing a life-limiting illness, extending through to the bereavement process. Care can be provided in a home, a hospital, or a long-term care setting.  Our Volunteers offer relief to enable primary caregivers to feel comfortable to take time away or rest.  Support is also provided to caregivers and families who are grieving the loss of their loved one. There are NO FEES for our services.

Huron Hospice continues to be a volunteer supported agency, and is governed by a Board of Directors which is drawn from all our communities. Read more about Huron Hospice Volunteer Service.

Huron Hospice provides services and programs to residents of Huron County at no cost to the participants. We are grateful for the generosity of the members of our community and our partners who make this possible. Thank you to the South West LHIN who is our major funder. The Hospice movement has exponentially expanded in recent years. So too have the demands for Standardization and Accreditation. We have acquired Level II Accreditation which is the highest level of accreditation awarded by Hospice Palliative Care Ontario, our accrediting body.

We enhance the comfort, dignity, and quality of life of individuals with life-limiting conditions through specialized palliative care services, while supporting their families, friends and caregivers through the illness, death and bereavement.

We will empower the dying to live their final days in dignity and comfort through choice of care and setting to help them “live through death”. We will enhance the lives of families, caregivers, and those so profoundly affected by the most sad and solemn situations along life’s journey that they may find peace and healing.

In all we do, we will demonstrate caring, compassion, sincerity, collaboration, responsibility, and advocacy.

Huron Hospice Volunteer Service was established in 1993 as a newly formed agency from existing programs in Clinton, Goderich and Seaforth.

The collaborative effort allowed for a broader area to:
• Recruit, educate, co-ordinate and support volunteers to provide palliative services
• Provide bereavement support through individual counselling
• Maintain a volunteer base
• Collaborate with other agencies to train volunteers and share resources

Huron Hospice applied for a venture grant in 1998, becoming a United Way agency. In 2005, Huron Hospice was approached by the Wingham and Area Palliative Care Board of Directors to consider merging the two agencies. It was decided this was a positive solution for both agencies and the WAPC became known as Huron Hospice, Wingham Site. In 2006, Huron Hospice obtained a Trillium Grant to expand visibility and board representation to Wingham and Goderich.
Huron Hospice moved the administrative offices to Clinton Public Hospital in November 2014. Our Annual General Meeting is held each Fall.
